Happy first day of snow season

Snowfall totals are not measured from January 1 to December 31 like other weather records.  Since the winter season covers two calendar years, the snowfall "year" goes from July 1 to June 30.

Here was the final snowfall report for the 2012-2013 season issued yesterday for Louisville.

SNOWFALL (IN)
  YESTERDAY 0.0 MM MM 0.0 0.0 0.0
  MONTH TO DATE 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0
  SINCE JUN 1 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0
  SINCE JUL 1 9.8 12.5 -2.7 7.0
  SNOW DEPTH 0

The 9.8 inches was pretty disappointing. The 12.5 number on the
chart is the average for the 12 month period. Louisville used
to have an average of about 17 inches, but some snow drought
years have caused the average to be lower.

Looking ahead to next winter..... here are a couple of temperature forecasts:

Climate Prediction Center  Dec. - Feb. temps forecast
CFS model Dec. - Feb. temps forecast
